Into the wild: Square One head to the Sahara

The Sahara Desert has been home to the Tuareg and Zaghawa and over the centuries its neighbours have included the Nubians, Egyptians, Phoenicians and Greeks.  From October 26th 2012 the Sahara Desert will be accommodating two new faces, a Solicitor and Shareholder from IT and ERP specialist recruiter Square One Resources.

Paul Hanikene, Founder and Shareholder of Square One and Stefan Albers-Brough, one of Square One’s solicitors are in preparation for a sponsored 7 day trek across an area of the 9,400,000 square kilometers of the Sahara Desert in support of Haven’s Hospice who provide end of life care for patients and respite breaks for patient’s families.

About the trek Stefan Albers-Brough Square One’s Head of Legal said

“This is a great opportunity to support a fantastic charity while also achieving a personal goal.  At the beginning of this year I had the good fortune to see Havens Hospice for myself and meet some of the dedicated team.  There is no doubt that the vital support Haven’s provide deserves as much publicity as possible and I’m truly honoured to fly the Haven’s flag.”

Starting in Ouarzazate in the Atlas Mountains and with 7 hours of hiking a day the pair face some more unusual dangers of the desert including the Deathstalker scorpion and “desert fighting camel” before arriving at their final destination of Saltpan Camp, Marrakech.

Paul and Stefan have set up justgiving pages (http://www.justgiving.com/Stefanalbersand www.justgiving.com/paul-hanikene0), which contain further details and will be updated over the course of the next weeks.  The trip itself has been personally funded by Paul and Stefan and as such, all proceeds raised from the trip sponsorship goes to Haven’s Hospice.
