James Caan - I’m delighted to get started on my new TV show, The Business Class
It has been a packed but also an exhilarating couple of weeks for me and I am still trying to catch my breath after everything that has happened. As well as preparing to take part in Linkedin’s Thought Leaders Project, which I must say is an immense privilege, I have taken my post as Chair of the Government’s Start Up Loans scheme which aims to give young people advice and financial backing so that they can start their own businesses.
There is also the small matter of keeping on top of all the day to day jobs at my private equity firm, Hamilton Bradshaw.
However, one of my most exciting projects at the moment, is that I’ve started filming a new TV series for the CNBC channel called The Business Class. The show is aimed at all entrepreneurs and designed to help small and medium sized enterprises grow and prosper.
I am so passionate about helping SME's, so I am delighted to be fronting this project. I will be be filmed alongside other business men and women, debating and taking a closer look at a range of companies at different stages in their lifecycle and what challenges they are facing. Hopefully, I will be able to put some of my experience and expertise to some practical use.
I believe the media can play a very big part in being able to motivate and teach entrepreneurs on how to do business. The power of the mass media, and particularly TV, should never be underestimated.
In the past business has been viewed as rather staid and unexciting. But the rise in popularity of shows like Dragon’s Den and The Apprentice have made business feel more exciting and dynamic.
The energy and creativity that goes into making quality programmes is exciting to be around. Ever since I first got involved I have tried to bring some of those qualities with me into the world of business.
One of the reasons I am so passionate about what I do is the excitement and buzz I get from creating something from scratch and then seeing it grow into a strong and vibrant business.
I hope that my new show helps educate and bring awareness to how exciting the world of business really can be!
The Business Class is a seven-part series on air from Wednesday October 17 at 10.00pm and will repeat at the weekend at 9.30pm. CNBC can be seen on Sky channel 505, Virgin 613 and Freesat 210. The first episode will feature LUX FIX, a members-only online fashion boutique.
