Latest survey finds nearly 90% of companies expecting to hire in the next year

There is a continuous perception that the economic recovery in Britain is slow, however, results from a recent survey contradict this, at least when it comes to employment.

In the latest research carried out by the UK’s leading online recruiter, webrecruit, organisations of all sizes across the UK were asked about hiring plans for the coming year. An amazing 89% of respondents said that they were expecting to recruit in the next 12 months.

46% of those surveyed planned to recruit up to 10 people, with the percentages decreasing for higher numbers of planned recruits: 11 – 50 (18%), 51 – 100 (7%) and 101 – 250 (3%).

However, surprisingly, the third biggest group of hiring companies (13%) said that they planned on making more than 250 hires. This suggests that some large businesses are undergoing dramatic expansion despite the economic conditions and that, at least in some quarters, there appears to be a huge amount of optimism.

Phil Roebuck, Founder/Director of webrecruit, says: “The results from our survey suggest that the vast majority of respondents are planning to hire within the next 12 months, which is fantastic news. In general, businesses are either hiring smaller numbers of employees, or are preparing for dramatic growth, suggesting that things are looking up for larger organisations in particular. Given that we’re continuously surrounded by talk of how the economy is in crisis, this really shows that there is positivity for many businesses. It isn’t all doom and gloom out there, and I think we could all do with looking to the future and keeping the past behind us!”
