STR lands on French soil and raises over £10,000 for Charity
This unique fundraising event started at Dover in the early hours of the morning with the task to cover the 22 miles across one of the UK’s busiest shipping lanes to arrive in Calais.
With STR successfully reaching the French shores, its target to raise over £10,000 for its chosen charity, Naomi House, has been achieved. £10,600 (including gift aid) has been raised to date in support of the charity, with the amount creeping up each day as donations come through after completing the challenge.
Speaking after the event, Richard Crawley, CEO of the STR Group and one of the rowers said
“As a keen supporter of Naomi House myself, I am thrilled that this ambitious event was a success. The money raised by the efforts of STR employees will make a huge difference, helping sick children and their families during difficult times. Knowing that the whole of the STR Group were behind us helped everyone get to the French shores. We are all very proud of our achievement and the money raised so far. I am particularly impressed with the sheer determination of the STR staff to complete the challenge especially considering the conditions, they certainly have enough war wounds to show so a really well done to them all”.
Naomi House provides essential support to children and young people with life limiting conditions across southern England. The charity provides valuable respite stays, end of life and bereavement care 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
Speaking after the event, Lauren Shields, Corporate Fundraiser at Naomi House said
“We are truly overwhelmed by the tremendous amount that STR has raised - the money will help us fund around the clock care for hundreds of local life limited babies, children and young adults and gives families the chance to spend precious time together. We appreciate how physically demanding the rowing was
for all those involved, and we are so grateful for the sheer determination of the team to help make short lives special. Thank you so much STR, what you have achieved is truly remarkable”.
