Driver Hire Businessman Wins Industry Accolade

Gurpreet Bains of Driver Hire was last night crowned the London and South East Franchisee of the Year at the 2012 bfa HSBC Franchisee of the Year Awards, supported by Express Newspapers.

Driver Hire is the UK’s largest provider of specialist transport and logistics recruitment, which offers temporary and permanent driving jobs and training.

The judges praised Gurpreet for his commitment to boosting his franchise. His determination and drive to achieve business success impressed the judges as well as his knowledge and understanding of the sector and his close relationship with his customer base.

Upon winning the award, Gurpreet said: “It is an honour to be named the Franchisee of the Year for the London and South East Region. It was a risk to take on the business at the time I did but sheer determination and belief in the franchise has paid off.”

Cathryn Hayes, Head of Franchising at HSBC, commented: “This year’s finalists have clearly demonstrated a passion for their business – support from their franchisor and other franchisees in their network means that they are not in business alone which has allowed them to really focus on delivering excellent customer service, a common thread running through their stories. Gurpreet Bains impressed the judges in the way he methodically and energetically revitalised the failed territory he took over, and his goal to help driver candidates to fulfill their own dreams and ambitions. He has completely turned the franchise around in his two years of ownership.”

Sean Hammond, Head of Franchising at Express Newspapers, said: “It’s great to see so many enterprising franchisees come forward and showcase great business practice we were blown away by the stories of the people behind the brands. Many congratulations to all of the individuals we have seen over the course of the awards who have set such a high business practice standard.”

Brian Smart, Director General of the British Franchise Association (bfa), said: “Each year we are captivated by the stories that are showcased by franchisees. It’s brilliant that these awards highlight such great ethical business practice and recognise the work of so many talented business people.”

Also celebrating success were:

Gold Award – Keith Ellwood, Autosmart (Edinburgh). Keith was praised by the judges for his determination and passion for his business, which has grown from strength to strength over 15 years.

Silver Award – Ron Mounsey, McDonald’s Restaurants (Swansea). Ron, who has been a McDonald’s franchisee for 14 years, was praised by the judges for his work within the community to address anti-social behaviour.

Bronze – Eve Kay, Jo Jingles (Frodsham, Cheshire). Eve was honoured in recognition of her efforts in expanding the franchise across the whole North West region, in a difficult economic environment.

In addition to the overall Gold, Silver and Bronze Award winners, five regional franchisees were recognised for their work.
