FCSA responds to news of the Deloitte report into freelancers and the BBC

8 November 2012: In response to media reports into the Deloitte report into freelancers and the BBC, Stuart Davis, Chairman of the FCSA says:

'We are disappointed to note that the BBC has bowed to political pressure and is reviewing the contractual arrangements of its freelancers because the Public Accounts Committee feels that they may contribute less. As we have commented before, this demonstrates a total lack of understanding of the flexible workforce and the contribution it makes to the British economy.

There is nothing wrong or inappropriate for any employer, including the BBC to employ freelancers, if done properly, for the right reasons and where those concerned pay appropriate taxes. We would like to remind the Government and those who are criticising these employment arrangements, that freelance contracting work is undertaken by thousands of workers up and down the UK and is a legitimate and valuable way of working that benefits both employers and employees.'
