Google most popular employer in China, says new survey

A new survey of over 3600 Chinese managers and professionals has found nearly one in ten naming Google as the company they would most like to work for, making it China’s most desirable employer.

The second most popular employer was CNPC – the China National Petroleum Corporation, followed by Dupont, Siemens and Apple.

The research, carried out by global recruitment firm, Antal Internationaland the China-based magazine, Network HR, also established which were the most desirable employers in key sectors:

Chemicals – Dow Chemicals

Automotive – BMW

FMCG – Coca Cola

IT and telecoms – Google

Luxury – LVMH

Manufacturing – GE

Overall, the top three factors attracting managers and professionals to an employer are: pay and benefits (59%), the size of the company (54%) and its public reputation (48%). However & lsquo;softer’ factors, such as management style (43%) and work/life balance (39%) are also playing an increasing role.

Ambitious professionals are also showing themselves willing to relocate to find the right employer, bringing much needed mobility to the jobs market outside traditional destinations such as Beijing and Shanghai. 53% of respondents would relocate, although in this group men outnumbered women by well over 3 to 1.

“Foreign companies are still the most sought after employers for managers and professionals in China,” says James Darlington, who heads up Antal’s operations in Asia. “However local companies are fighting back with better financial rewards and improved working environments. As a result nearly half of the people we interviewed who were currently working for a multi-national said they were keen to move to a Chinese company."
