Spencer Ogden launches Calgary operation

Spencer Ogden launches Calgary operation

Spencer Ogden celebrates the opening of its new office in Calgary, Canada today. The launch comes at an exciting period for the energy recruitment agency which has already seen offices open in Houston and Hong Kong in recent months.

Heading up the Calgary office is the newly appointed country manager, Matthew Bushell. Matthew has eight years experience within the global recruitment sector, having previously held managerial roles in Australia and Dubai, and was chosen due to his extensive technical recruitment experience recruiting for the oil and gas industry.

Spencer Ogden has chosen the prestigious Bankers Hall building in downtown Calgary as the site for its Canadian operations. The 52-storey post-modern office towers are the tallest twin buildings in the country. With capacity for a team of 20, the office will provide ample space for the local energy consultants working there.

Taking advantage of the burgeoning oil sands projects in Canada, the Calgary office will initially specialise in the oil and gas industry as well as mining.

Bushell comments: “I’m looking forward to this exciting new venture and think that Spencer Ogden is going to have a lot of success here. As the media regularly comments, the energy market in Calgary is booming because of the rapid growth of green oil sand projects. But it’s not just oil. Canada is home to some of the world’s largest mining companies specialising in rare earth, copper, potash and diamonds. In other words, there is plenty of work to be done.”

As with many world markets, the Canadian energy industry is maturing which means that middle management positions are in high demand. David Spencer-Percival, CEO of Spencer Ogden remarks: “Because of its location, Calgary and the Canadian energy industry is facing similar problems to Aberdeen in terms of projects skills shortages as a result of an ageing workforce. Many companies are therefore now entering a period of succession planning, so it will be vital that good recruiters, like those at Spencer Ogden, are on hand to maintain a skilled workforce.”

The Calgary office is Spencer Ogden’s seventh business hub and joins its other headquarters in London, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Houston, Singapore and Hong Kong, cementing its position as the world’s leading energy recruitment agency of choice.
