Morgan Hunt provide Olympic worthy career advice to Team GB at the Athletes Career Fair

Morgan Hunt, leading national recruitment agency, alongside their charity partner, the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust, attended the Athletes Career Fair at the Madejski Stadium in Reading to provide career advice.  This event was run by the British Olympic Association.

Over the course of the day Morgan Hunt ran a series of CV writing and interview technique workshops to over 350 Team GB Olympians and Para-Olympians to support those aspiring, current and retired athletes, with their careers outside of elite sports.

While it has been a glittering summer for British sport the harsh reality is that for every medalist there are fifteen athletes, coaches or support staff whose sporting career will have ended with no funding or obvious career progression in their chosen sport.

“Having focused their entire life in sport many of these athletes will never have written a CV or applied for a job” said Cat Gardner, Manager for Employability & Skills at Morgan Hunt.  “However, these athletes offer many sought after skills such as leadership, motivation, ambition and a positive attitude.  Combined with the career advice we have provided, such as CV writing and interviewing skills, I believe that this diverse group of athletes will be a real benefit to employers.”

Throughout the day Morgan Hunt staff helped promote opportunities in fields such as Marketing, Sports Science, Health & Fitness and Social Work to ex-Olympians and Para-Olympians who are looking towards the next chapter of their lives.

Dame Kelly Holmes, Chair of the DKH Legacy Trust, commented, “It can be difficult for athletes who are ending their careers. Having dedicated their entire lives to something, it is not easy to make that transition later in life.

Yesterday’s BOA Careers Fair offered athletes a unique insight into employment opportunities and support away from elite sport. I am delighted my charity was joined by Morgan Hunt at the Fair. Their expertise in recruitment showed these athletes how to prepare for a new career path a skill many previously never would have considered.”
