Thorn Baker Sponsors Employability Event

Thorn Baker, the national recruitment company were delighted to sponsor The G4C & lsquo;Generation for Change’ employability event held at Sheffield Hallam University and targeted towards construction students within the Yorkshire & Humber area.

The recruitment company specialises in recruitment throughout the construction industry. The company’s aim was to educate those that have recently joined the construction industry and those planning to enter the industry in the future with employment guidance.

G4C is the new entrant strand of Constructing Excellence, which is designed to allow new entrants to the construction industry to gain the skills and knowledge, which are needed to become future leaders of the industry. Thorn Baker’s Director Paul Jackman presented guests with the latest thinking on what employers are looking for and how to stand out from the crowd.

Constructing Excellence (CE) is a cross-sector, cross-supply chain, member led organisation operating for the industry. CE improves industry performance to produce a better built environment and is based within the Yorkshire & Humber Construction Best Practice Club.

Thorn Baker Director Paul Jackman, comments

“It was especially rewarding to meet so many students that are passionate about a career in the Construction. With the combined burden of tuition fees and a tough economic climate the challenge of finding suitable employment can be quite daunting.

“I'd like to think that some of the practical advice I have shared could improve their employability and their attractiveness to potential employers.”

G4C actively seeks to build the power of the next generation of construction professionals by attracting, developing, connecting and retaining the necessary people required to drive change within the industry.

Thorn Baker’s Leeds Construction Branch Manager, Michelle Smith provided guidance to individuals at the G4C networking session after the event on the way the industry functions and how they can become Construction professionals within the society.
