Russell Clements appointed Chairman at The Oyster Partnership

Recruitment specialists bring in industry heavyweight to lead ambitious growth plans

The Oyster Partnership has today announced that Russell Clements, previously CEO of SThree Group Plc, has been appointed as Chairman.  The move comes as Oyster, the privately owned recruitment business specialising in the Property and Surveying  sectors appointed Mark “Barney” Battles in September as a non-executive financial director.

Clements announced his planned departure from SThree Group plc, the UK’s third-biggest professional jobs firm, in December. He had become SThree’s second employee in 1986 and had been chief executive of the FTSE listed firm since 2004. SThree is the parent brand for leading international ICT recruitment firms including Computer Futures, Progressive Recruitment and Huxley Associates.

London-based Oyster Partnership, which operates in both private and public sectors, was founded in 2004 by Jack Barton and Daniel Whomes, growing to a team of 24 today.  Clements joins Oyster following a sustained period of revenue generation in its core operational markets Oyster’s growth figures for 2012 are highly impressive considering the concurrent UK macroeconomic data.  As a figurehead for the business Clements will help guide Oyster through the expansion of existing areas and the development of the business as a whole.

Clements comments, “When I left SThree I was clear that I needed to experience something fresh, fun and different Oyster is exactly that. Personally, my career highlights have been when my business was roughly the size Oyster is today and then again when we became really big.  It’s a privilege to be part of the business at this exciting time in its journey.  My intention is to bring my experience to the table to guide Oyster to the top.  I’m here to make a difference.”

Welcoming Clements to the team, Jack Barton adds, “For us, Russell joining is the final piece of the jigsaw as far as preparation for growth goes.  Both Daniel and I have always regarded Russell as somewhat of a legend - an inspirational figurehead within the industry - so working with him is hugely exciting. We know he will be integral to driving our growth, both in the UK and as we move into international markets.”
