Genie Accountancy refuses to be caught out by IR35

The world of the temporary work force is ever-changing. In 2012, there was increased activity with the introduction of Business Entity Tests, off payroll rules for Government departments and increased specialist resources in HMRC departments to enable an increase in IR35 investigations. (IR35 the UK’s tax legislation designed to tax "disguised employment" at a rate similar to employment. In this context, "disguised employees" means workers who receive payments from a client via an intermediary and whose relationship with their client is such that had they been paid directly they would be employees of the client.) It can often be difficult to keep up with the latest developments to ensure that candidates and contractors are well-informed of any occurrences which may affect them and the way they work.

In 2013, the focus on IR35 remains high. That’s why Genie Accountancybelieves that it is imperative that all contractors review their IR35 status regularly. They are committed to ensuring that the contractors and freelance professionals they take under their wing are prepared for the latest changes and as a result, recently announced their formal association with Bauer & Cottrell, a leading IR35 specialist. Bauer & Cottrell enjoy an excellent reputation for IR35 Compliance and their reviews are founded on principles of honesty and integrity, values they share with Genie Accountancy.

Helen Christopher, Operations Director of Genie Accountancy said “we are really pleased to be working so closely Bauer & Cottrell. We strongly believe that contractors need to review their IR35 status on an assignment by assignment basis. This review needs to be comprehensive and focused not so much on an “IR35 friendly contract” but on the working practices and the reality of the relationship between contractor and end client. Bauer & Cottrell’s experience and involvement with the IR35 forum supports this approach and as such we believe our association provides our contractors with access to the most current and accurate thinking in terms of IR35 and status reviews.”

For more information on IR35, you can visit this government website. It will tell you all you need to know about the legislation. Perhaps you should then ensure your candidates and contracts know all about it too&hellip
