Manchester base to be jewel in recruitment firm’s crown
ONE of the UK’s biggest industrial recruitment firms has expanded into Greater Manchester.
gap personnel, which places and payrolls 7,000 temporary workers a week and achieved a record turnover of £72m last year, has opened a branch at Hollinwood Business Centre on Albert Street in Oldham.
gap is planning to make its new Manchester office the “jewel in the crown” of its well-established North West operation.
Within the region, the company already has branches in Liverpool, Warrington, Preston, Burnley and Crewe.
Craig Buckley, newly-appointed manager of gap’s Greater Manchester branch, said: “Manchester’s economy has displayed tremendous resilience throughout the downturn, and the city region is home to some of Britain’s most dynamic and innovative companies.
“With a recent New Economy survey finding that more than a fifth of Greater Manchester businesses are planning to increase the size of their workforce this year, we expect demand for temporary workers to be strong.
“The start of infrastructure work at Airport City is an exciting milestone that is adding to the sense of optimism here.
“We’re looking forward to working with manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, automotive and food production firms across the area and meeting their flexible labour requirements.”
Craig, a born and bred Mancunian who has worked in recruitment for over a decade, added: “The opportunity to manage a branch in my home city was extremely attractive, as was the chance to work for an ambitious and successful firm like gap.
“I’m very excited about the opportunity, and hope my local knowledge and experience – along with our strategic location next to the M60 – will help us to succeed.”
gap personnel offers nationwide coverage across seven regions through high-street branches, specialist divisions and an on-site network. In 2012 it provided staffing solutions to nearly 1,200 clients across the UK.
Area manager Ross Sullivan said: “I’m thrilled that we have attracted someone of Craig’s calibre and reputation to spearhead our Manchester operation.
“We have plans for the Manchester branch to be the & lsquo;jewel in the crown’ of our North West operations, and Craig is undoubtedly the right man to deliver this.
“I look forward to seeing his career develop in conjunction with gap’s growth.”
