Professionals missing out on cloud careers

New research by CWJobs.co.uk has uncovered that IT professionals can see the benefits of a career in cloud, but 71% have no idea how to get skilled up in it.

Cloud is an area of IT that is still developing, and businesses across the industry are looking to put this new technique to use. Professionals can see the benefits of a career in this sector, and despite less than half of them currently having experience in cloud (45%), two thirds of professionals plan to gain skills which could assist in a career working with this growing trend (61%).

Despite this desire for further learning, almost three quarters of professionals do not know how to get skills in this area of the industry (71%).

This is a key issue for Britain’s technology sector, particularly as career opportunities in cloud are on the increase, 71% of industry insiders stated that they think there will be more jobs that require cloud-computing skills in the future. Despite not being a new aspect of IT, Cloud is still in development and beginning to integrate into every level of technology in a variety of sector’s, including retail, commercial and business.

Jobseekers are reacting to this over half of professionals have sought to gain new skills (51%) and experience in cloud, to enhance their employability. This was supported by 52% of professionals who think having skills in cloud will make you more attractive to an employer.

Richard Nott, Website Director, CWJobs stated, “It is clear cloud is having a positive impact on the IT job market, the majority of professionals think there will be more jobs requiring cloud-computing skills in the future. The value of these developments however, will be lost unless the industry works to promote opportunities for training and further development, necessary to ensure Britain has a workforce equipped with the skills to fulfil vacancies. With clouds’ continued development in mind, this makes promoting cloud careers even more important, to ensure Britain’s position as a leader in the technology industry”.
