NRL Group Ltd staff take on the 10 Peak Challenge

NRL Group Ltd staff take on the 10 Peak Challenge raising money for Help for Heroes charity

As part of NRL’s CSR program, which actively promotes staff engagement with community and charity fund raising projects, 3 members of NRL are set to embark upon a gruelling challenge to scale 10 of the highest peaks in the Lake District.

The challenge by numbers:

10 Peaks

73 Kilometres

5600m vertical ascent

Target time 24 hours

On the 18th May this year David, Daniel and Andrew Redmayne, along with George Mosey of Laing O’Rourke and Dicky Taylor of Accenture will be attempting to summit the 10 ten peaks with a target time of 24 hours, The ten peaks include Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England and 5 others over 915m (3000ft). The team are training hard for the event and have earmarked a fund raising target of &pound5,000 which will all go to the "Help for Heroes" charity.

Daniel Redmayne discusses the background to the challenge

“The serving men and women in the British armed forces do an amazing job, putting their life on the line every day. The Ten Peaks is recognised as one of the UK’s toughest hiking challenges but is nothing when considered against the daily task that faces our troops on the ground, we are happy just to be doing our bit to help them.”

Daniel continues “In 2012 we completed the Three Peaks challenge in just under 22 hours, and whilst that was only 50km hiking, we had to also do some 450 miles of driving between the climbs. So far on this challenge the team has clocked up over 50 training miles, with a fair bit more planned in coming weeks. We are quietly confident that we can complete the walk within the 24 hour timeframe, but we are all certainly praying for good weather and fair wind to see us across the finish line.”
