25,000 Summer Jobs still up for grabs despite Rising Youth Unemployment

Research carried out by Job Search Engine shows that despite rising unemployment among 16-24 year olds, the job market this summer for students, university leavers and young part time workers is booming with over 25,000 part time jobs up for grabs in June (10% up on last year). Security & Hospitality vacancies dominate this swell in summer jobs with big British sporting events and festivals hiring more than ever before.   

25,000 part time jobs still up for grabs this summer

Wimbledon is one of the top hiring events this summer with over 7,000 staff working at the Championships this year. There are still dozens of catering & hospitality jobs up for grabs at the All England Club paying an average salary of &pound8.50 per hour.  

Musical Festivals such as Glastonbury, V Festival, Bestival and Wireless are among the top hiring events this summer. Glastonbury alone has created 40,000 jobs this summer (of which hundreds are still available) -  from Back Stage Managers at &pound20 per hour to Toilet Cleaners at &pound6.31 per hour.

Where in Britain are the jobs? - Students and University leavers should look to head to London and the South East this summer. Nearly 60% of all summer jobs advertised this month are in this part of the country.

Fruit Pickers & Packers are in unusually hot demand this summer with more than 500 job vacancies currently live. 20% of these jobs are in South West England. 

Healthy pay packets

Car Parkers, Stewards & Marshals can expect to be paid an average of &pound8.50 per hour this summer, that's 37% higher than the national average for the year. Volunteers and paid staff at music festivals such as Glastonbury and V are further incentivised with free festival tickets worth &pound260)

Seasonal staff at Wimbledon, Queens and Lords Cricket - working full-time for two weeks at an average wage of &pound6.75 per hour, will together earn over &pound1m.

The largest number vacancies at events this summer are in security and stewarding, but it is the least well-paid, earning between &pound6.45 - &pound6.65 per hour

Highly skilled workers earn up to &pound55 per hour at summer events

The best paid temporary jobs often require years of training in a given field. Emergency GPs on hand at the major events this summer can earn up to &pound55 an hour over 12-hour shifts, and private nurses not much less at &pound35-&pound40/hr.

Computer science students and graduates pay attention - There are nearly 1,000 entry level IT summer jobs currently being advertised in the UK paying up to &pound18 per hour.

The top paying summer jobs are all in The City of London where economics, finance and IT boffins can earn a packet this summer
