CRG STAFF ROLL UP THEIR SLEEVES FOR NATIONAL BLOOD WEEK

Staff at CRG (Castlerock Recruitment Group), the St Helens-based recruitment and health service provider, have been rolling up their sleeves this week in support of National Blood Week.

In a show of commitment, eight staff members at CRG’s Waterside Court office – Maria Harvey, Francesca Wellman, Amy Davies, John Townley, Ben Lamb, Antony Broughton, Amy Williams and Cheryl Finney – have been encouraging people in the region to attend a local blood donor session in a bid to support the UK-wide awareness drive.

Taking place from 10 to 16 June, National Blood Week aims to encourage a greater proportion of the population to give blood. Following a 23 per cent drop in active donors over the last decade, organisers are hoping to encourage new and returning donors to step forward – with a particular focus on young people.

Cheryl Finney, recruitment and compliance team leader at CRG, said: “CRG is heavily entrenched within the health sector, so we are acutely aware of just how essential blood supplies are to the NHS. However, not everyone understands how and why blood donors form a core part of the UK’s health infrastructure, which is why we wanted to do our bit to support the national awareness drive.

“There are a number of donor sessions taking place in and around St Helens – including at the Saints rugby ground – throughout the coming weeks. It’s alarming to think that so many of us rely on just four per cent of the population who currently give blood – hopefully we can start to improve this figure.”

The NHS needs 200,000 new registered blood donors every year to keep donor levels stable. Anyone aged between 17 and 65 years of age, weighing more than 50 kg (7st 12lbs), and in general good health, could become a blood donor.

Jon Latham, Assistant Director of Marketing at NHSBT commented: “This year we are trying to tell people a lot more about the importance of blood donation around the theme of 'Know Blood, Give Blood'. We are trying to recruit 10,000 new donor registrants over the week who will become the blood of the future.”

CRG is a health service provider and recruitment group that was established in 2000. With group turnover set to top &pound24 million in 2013/14, the company specialises in the supply of medical locums, GPs, allied health professionals and health science services staff, together with qualified nursing and healthcare staff, domiciliary care services and supported living.
