Spencer Ogden outgrows small business status

Spencer Ogden is launching a brand new office space in London. With capacity for 70 new consultants, the move brings the number of staff at the agency to more than 250 and signals the end of Spencer Ogden’s status as a small business.

Spencer Ogden now has office capacity for 400 staff globally and is on track to comfortably exceed &pound50m turnover/&pound20m net fee income in its fourth year of trading.

“Typically a small business is one with 250 employees or less and we are excited to say we have now surpassed that,” says David Spencer-Percival, CEO of Spencer Ogden. “Of course we celebrated in typical Spencer Ogden style with a 90s fancy dress day!”

Spencer-Percival continued: “We are extremely pleased with the growth we have achieved since our launch in 2010. In just three years we have opened ten offices around the world and employed hundreds of consultants, many of whom started their careers at Spencer Ogden. But now it’s time to return our focus to the UK and to start growing our sales team at the HQ in London. This office is the first stage in that process."

Created by interior designer Bonita Bryg, the new space, situated on a new floor but in the same building as the original Spencer Ogden HQ, retains the earthy, natural theme exhibited by the recruitment agency’s other offices, with added neo-modern elements and a London Underground twist.

The main floor has once again been covered with Astroturf and the ceiling has been exposed. Large round tables are dotted around the room, and a fully kitted American diner spans one side of the space. In addition, a separate area has been kitted out like a London tube train with original station signs adorning the walls, and the phrase & lsquo;Mind the Energy Skills Gap’ printed on the floor. Finally, between these two areas is a stylish reception with a Spencer Ogden tube sign, huge rustic reception desk and neo-modern seating arrangement.

Spencer-Percival comments: “While our numbers are growing, we are focussed on retaining the fun, start-up culture our staff have always enjoyed. It is vital that employees look forward to their working day and that they are proud to tell their friends about their company. Happy staff will work hard, but they will also act as a natural marketing tool, communicating to the outside world that Spencer Ogden is a fantastic employer.

“We’re only half way through the year but already have plans for five new offices. With the addition of these we hope to raise our employee numbers to 400 by the end of this year, and 500 by 2015, at which point we will then be proud to call ourselves a large global recruitment agency.”
