Recruitment industry professional, David Riley, has been awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Business in a ceremony at Brunel University on 24 July. The award was made in recognition of his outstanding service to business and to the University.

Appointed Brunel’s Entrepreneur-in-Residence in July 2010, David has a reputation for promoting entrepreneurship in schools and universities. As well as being a successful businessman, he has served on a Bank of England advisory panel, was an early contributor to The Enterprise Academy, is involved in an association for managing directors and entrepreneurs, and has published and lectures widely.

David and his partner, Richard Holliday,  started Mandeville Recruitment Group in 1992. He sold it in 2009 with over 100 employees and immediately began new ventures he is currently a director of the Flatman Partnership and Tech-People Limited. Despite a busy business life he has made time to support Brunel University staff and students’ entrepreneurial activities.

Commenting on the Award, Riley said: "I have really enjoyed my time at Brunel, passing on the lessons of my hard-won experience to the students - so that they can learn from my mistakes as well as my successes. I am honoured and delighted that the University considers my contribution sufficiently worthwhile to warrant this award."
