Recruiter motors ahead with SMMT membership

A specialist automotive recruitment firm has cemented its position at the heart of the British motor industry by securing membership of an influential trade association. gearshift, a division of gap personnel, has been granted associate member status by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

It becomes one of 550 companies and organisations to join the SMMT, which promotes and supports the UK automotive industry. In order to become an associate SMMT member, gearshift had to undergo a rigorous application process and provide references and testimonials from existing clients within the automotive sector.

Steve Murphy, business development manager at gearshift, said: “We’re delighted to secure membership of the SMMT, which acts as the voice of the motor industry and is an internationally recognised trade body. “We look forward to building strong links with SMMT members, as we work towards our goal of becoming the recruitment partner of choice for the UK automotive industry and its supply chain partners.”

gearshift, launched by gap personnel in 2011 in response to the recovery in the UK automotive industry, sources candidates to fill permanent, contract and temporary vacancies on behalf of its clients.

It is already a member of the North West Automotive Alliance and Welsh Automotive Forum.

Along with its parent company, gap personnel, gearshift has also formed a strategic alliance with organisational development firm Stratum.

The tie-up is designed to further improve the efficiency and productivity of firms in the automotive sector, by ensuring they have access to a steady stream of skilled workers.

“We support the interests of the UK automotive industry at home and abroad, presenting a united position to government, stakeholders and the media.
