Biggins Drives CV-Library Buyout

Leading independent job board, CV-Library, announces the completion of an internal buyout by co-founder and Managing Director, Lee Biggins.

Biggins and Brian Wakem co-founded the business in 2000 and have shared its success equally over the past 12 years. The eight figure buyout is supported by a combination of personal funds, bank lending and profit from the business, no external investors are involved.

Biggins said that buying Wakem’s 50% share of the business will allow CV-Library to keep its independent title and “help us continue to grow our brand and recognition throughout the recruitment market while holding on to our core values.”

Biggins has been the face of CV-Library from the outset, leading both the marketing and sales teams. Wakem led the development team and built the original platform, in recent months he elected to take a step back to focus on family life. A strong team of developers has grown around Wakem, including replacement IT and Finance Directors, who are continuing to drive CV-Library forward in the competitive online recruitment industry.

Biggins, on owning 100% of the business: “It feels like I’m starting again, I’m more motivated than ever and I have long-term visions and ambitious plans. Owning CV-Library completely will allow me to invest more money back into the business and lead to faster growth and more innovation.”

To date CV-Library’s database stands at 6.7 million CVs and 150,000 new CVs are being registered on a monthly basis. Year on year the business has recorded a 29% increase in turnover and their market share is increasing month on month (Hitwise). The generalist job board attracts candidates from across the UK and advertises jobs from recruitment agencies and in-house HR teams from over 70 different sectors.

Biggins has been recognised for several high profile business awards since founding CV-Library and earlier this week he was announced as a finalist for the Entrepreneur of the Year category at the Inspire Business Awards. CV-Library has also been recognised for over 30 award wins and nominations over the years. More recently the job board was named Business of the Year at the Inspire Business Awards, and won Best Job Board and Creative Online Marketing awards. The rapid growth of the independent business has also been acknowledged by Deloitte in the Technology Fast 50 UK and Fast 500 EMEA rankings.

The independent job board established itself as one of the main players in the recruitment market during 2008 when its database hit the one million CVs milestone. An independent audit by ABC Electronic followed in 2010 and confirmed CV-Library’s title as the UK’s largest and fastest growing CV database.

Future plans for the award-winning job board include mobile development and usability improvements, social media integration and candidate profile enhancements.
