Michelle Mellor Rides the Snow Roads for Charity!

Cummins Mellor  Operations Director, Michelle Mellor took to the saddle once again and cycled the audacious snow roads to raise money for their chosen cancer charity, Rosemere Cancer Foundation based in Lancashire.

Along with her two friends Jacky Godfrey and Phillipa McDowell, Jacky’s mum and dad, Kenneth and Margot Norcross supported the trio acting as bike mechanic, luggage transfer, and navigators.  They also provided water first aid, photography and the much needed jelly babies - all whilst driving the support vehicle in front of the cyclists on the 300 kilometres through the Audax route.

The three cyclists who have raised over &pound7,000 this year used the trip as a training exercise before embarking on cycling 400k through Tanzania, Africa at the beginning of October.

They started the popular Audax challenge from Kirriemuir  in the Scottish Highlands on a wet Thursday morning which took them over the highest A road in Britain as well as the Leict Ski resort and the Cairn & lsquo;o Mount, finishing on Sunday just about the same time Sir Bradley was collecting his 6th Yellow jersey title. The ladies are hoping this trip and the Tanzania challenge will take their fundraising to &pound10,000 by the time they return home at the end of October.

Jacky’s parents were paramount during their cycling adventure and stayed with the cyclists all the way providing backup car support, change of clothing, food, water and lots of encouragement.  Michelle Mellor said “they have both been fantastic, we couldn’t have done it without them, they have stayed with us every step of the way, checked us into the B&Bs, have taken our luggage, checked the bikes every morning and provided lots of laughter. They are an inspiration and we are so pleased they were there”.

“I have been very impressed with them all” commented 84 year old Ken, “anyone who has cycled this route knows how tough it can be but they kept going and have raised lots of money in the process for a very worthwhile cancer charity. We personally have gained so much from the experience, everyone is a winner!”
