MD raises money for Macmillan
Leeds-based recruitment expert is on target to complete five gruelling challenges this year to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, after the disease struck four of his friends and family members over the last two years.
Chris Tinson is managing director A of Veritas Recruitment, which specialises in recruitment for the renewable energy sector as well as the property and construction industries.
Last weekend he did the Yorkshire Marathon and earlier this month he completed the Oulton Park Duathlon, which consisted of an 8.6km run, 38.7km bike ride and another 4.3km run, in an impressive two hours and 24 minutes. In May he ran the Leeds Half Marathon in one hour and 42 minutes and later this year he will climb the Yorkshire Three Peaks and take part in a skydive to tackle his fear of heights.
Over the last two years Chris has lost his Uncle, 49 to cancer and has a close friend who at only 31 is battling cancer for the third time. A member of his wife’s family has also recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
The 30 year old who lives in Roundhay, says: “In the last two years the devastating effects of cancer have become all too real. Two of the people I know with the disease are a similar age to me which is frightening. My Uncle was a huge influence in my life and a keen runner so this weekend’s marathon is particularly poignant even though it will be one of the hardest challenges – although my fear of heights means I’m dreading the skydive more!
“Thankfully my Grandma managed to beat lung cancer for the second time earlier this year so it can be done. Completing these challenges seemed an obvious way to show my support and raise money for a great cause. I’m paying all the costs of the challenges myself so all the sponsorship will go straight to Macmillan.
“The feeling of helplessness when a loved one is diagnosed with Cancer is overwhelming. Hopefully giving up my free time to train and a few weekends to take part in these events will result in enough money being raised to help Macmillan make a difference to someone’s battle with Cancer.”
