APSCo welcomes new regulatory framework
Following this week’s statement from MP Jo Swinson announcing a change of framework for the recruitment sector, head of external relations at APSCo Samantha Hurley commented.
“We welcome the announcement by Jo Swinson which, from our previous consultations with BIS in recent months, is not only exactly what we were expecting to hear, but it is also positive news for both staffing businesses and vulnerable workers.
“APSCo worked very closely with BIS – via its Consultation Working Group - to respond to the Government’s public consultation surrounding the future of the Conduct Regulations, so it is welcome news to see that the draft response is in line with what we were calling for and further reinforces BIS’ commitment to work closely with the staffing sector to create legislation fit for today’s employment market, and not, as has been the case in recent years, a & lsquo;one size fits all’ approach.
“The new framework will not only protect vulnerable workers via the creation of a new HMRC team to focus on the enforcement of non-payment of the National Minimum Wage, but it will also ensure that there will still be experienced enforcers sitting within BIS to deal with complaints about staffing companies.”
