Japanese government to extend temporary staffing period rule
All workers with open-ended contracts with staffing agencies will be exempted from the rule and be allowed to continue to work at the same firm for more than three years, they said.
Currently, only 26 job types, including secretaries and television announcers, are exempted from the rule.
The ministry proposed the revised exemption at a meeting of its Labour Policy Council, a panel of advisers, as part of an outline of planned revisions to the worker dispatch law.
The ministry plans to submit a bill for the revisions next month.
Through the revision to the rule on temporary staffing periods, the ministry intends to improve employment conditions for dispatched workers.
But within the council, officials are divided over the matter with some opposing the revision, concerned that it could prevent dispatched workers from gaining permanent jobs.
