BiS Henderson appoints managing director
The Academy has been created to support organisations in developing their talent pools, specifically through inspiring young people into the logistics industry. It is intended to provide tailored pre-employment and career development programmes and create gateways to higher education qualifications through apprenticeships.
Paul joins from Unipart Logistics where he was a board director with responsibility for global sales. He is also Chairman of Skills for Logistics and President Elect of The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT).
In his role as Chairman of Skills for Logistics, Paul has established UK wide credibility for leading the development of core apprenticeship programmes, supported by successive UK governments. The Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS), the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) and the UK Commission for Education and Skills (UKCES) all have significant investment programmes for employer led schemes to develop UK logistics and supply chain talent. The BiS Henderson Academy will work with UK employers on developing individual tailored programmes to accelerate their business goals.
Andy Kaye, Chief Executive of BiS Henderson, said: “I am delighted that Paul has joined our executive team to lead the development of the BiS Henderson Academy. I have known Paul personally for a number of years through his roles within CILT and have worked closely with him on building the Novus Trust. His passion for developing the skills and capabilities of our sector is almost limitless.
“We have seen the need for the development of high quality apprentice schemes grow significantly across the sector and many organisations are starting to talk to us about helping them create a unique offering for young people. This has inspired us to reach out by creating The BiS Henderson Academy which will bring the BiS Henderson values and expertise to the delivery of apprenticeships.”
Paul Brooks commented on his appointment: “I have been really impressed with the quality of BiS Henderson’s business approach and believe that the opportunity to create a world class Academy for apprenticeships has come at exactly the right time.
“The vision for the BiS Henderson Academy is to create a gateway into the logistics and supply chain industry for young talent. The industry has a requirement for over 500,000 new entrants in the next 5-7 years, and in a rapidly changing, technology dependent industry, those seeking a fast paced career in the sector will need the skills to back up their ambitions.”
The BiS Henderson Academy is focused on apprentices and apprenticeships, introducing school and university leavers to the exciting and vibrant career opportunities that exist in logistics and supply chain organisations.
One of the key aims of the BiS Henderson Academy is to deliver an inspirational experience for each apprentice through the Gateway 2 Logistics on-boarding programme and then working with client organisations to realise market leading value through development speed, bespoke programme effectiveness and improved retention.
