Job creation soars in the West Midlands
More jobs were created in the region than anywhere else in the three months to November, according to the latest CBI/Pertemps Network Group Market Labour Update report.
Employment growth was evident in almost every UK region - with the West Midlands coming out on top with the creation of more than 57,000 jobs. The other strongest rises were recorded in London (54,000) and the East Midlands (49,000).
Carmen Watson, Chairperson of national recruitment firm Pertemps Ltd, which began life in Birmingham in the 1960s, said: “This latest data shows that the labour market is recovering strongly from the recession with employment growth evident in almost every UK region. The rise in jobs in the West Midlands alone is phenomenal and recruitment companies have played a major part in this turnaround. There is still plenty to do as the labour market is not fully recovered but vacancies are on the rise making life for jobseekers a whole lot easier moving forward.”
The CBI/Pertemps Market Labour Update also showed employment growth in Yorkshire and Humber (28,000), the North West (23,000), North East (22,000), Wales (21,000), the East of England (15,000), the South East (11,000), Scotland (10,000) and Northern Ireland (6,000). The only region not to report a rise was the South West where employment fell by 15,000 in the three months to November.
Across the UK, employment grew at its fastest rate since records began and unemployment dropped at its fastest pace since the late 1990s.
