New owner at Driver Hire Southampton

Carter, who lives in Basingstoke, previously worked in IT for Reading-based business, Black Box Network Services.

A franchise business, Driver Hire is the UK’s largest specialist supplier of staff to the transport and logistics industry. It provides temporary and permanent drivers and other logistics staff to local and national organisations in both the public and private sector. If they’re short of staff – perhaps because of illness, holidays or seasonal demand – Driver Hire will supply them with a suitable replacement.

Alongside the core recruitment business, Carter will continue to offer Driver CPC training. Driver CPC (Driver Certificate of Professional Competence) is an essential requirement for all vocational holders of a large goods vehicle licence. To meet the requirements of Driver CPC, 35 hours of training must be completed by September 2014. LGV drivers who fail to meet this deadline will no longer be able to drive a large goods vehicle professionally.

“I’ve always wanted to be my own boss,” says Carter. “Buying a franchise is a safer way of doing it. For a start, you’re buying into a tried and tested business model. Research by the Nat West Bank shows that franchises have a much higher success rate and move into profitability more quickly than a standalone business start-up. And of course, Driver Hire are currently celebrating 30 years in business which, in itself, speaks volume about its reputation and strength of its business model.”

Carter will be working alongside Gillian Walter (Office Manager) and Richard Booker (Training Manager) both of whom worked for the previous franchise owner.
