Gi Group UK awarded Big Tick in BITCs Responsible Business Awards
The Big Tick is an accolade from the Responsible Business Awards, the UK’s longest-running and most respected awards scheme recognising businesses that are making a positive difference to society and to the environment.
A Big Tick is an endorsement of responsible business, and companies are awarded for initiatives tackling a range of issues: from stimulating local or rural communities, building long-term partnerships with schools, inspiring young talent, to embedding environmental sustainability into how products and services are used by customers.
Gi Group UK achieved the Big Tick in the 2013 Responsible Business awards with its entry going on to win the National Workplace Talent and Skills Category. It has been re-accredited this year for demonstrating continuous positive impact on improving the lives and prospects of individuals in the communities in which it operates.
The Gi Group programme was credited for its investment in programmes designed to improve employability. They resulted in over 1,000 qualifications being delivered to people with little previous formal education and the placement of previously unemployed people into more than 2,500 permanent jobs in the year leading up to the award. These elements have been further strengthened as part of Gi Group’s company wide CSR programme launched in April this year.
Gi Group Chief Executive, Jess Watts said, “We became the first company in the recruitment industry to win this Responsible Business Award and by embedding this socially responsible approach at the heart of everything we do, it provides clients and the wider community with tangible evidence that Gi Group is a different kind of employment business.
“Winning the Responsible Business Award has allowed Gi Group to compare ourselves not only with the best in our industry, but with the best in any industry and this has brought improved confidence and engagement our staff are proud to work for Gi Group and proud of the difference we are making to people’s lives and prospects. Re-accreditation reinforces that message and reflects the great strides we continue to make with our CSR-led measures within the business and our community.”
Commenting, Stephen Howard, chief executive, Business in the Community said, “All year round, responsible businesses across the UK are contributing towards more resilient communities, stimulating local economies, creating diverse, skilled and healthy workforces and addressing skills shortages - yet these activities rarely get attention. The Responsible Business Awards shine a much needed spotlight on the powerful impact of business. Each of the companies recognised are playing their part to build a new contract between business and society and a more sustainable future for us all. I congratulate Gi Group UK for its Big Tick reaccreditation, which is a powerful symbol of business doing more to bring about change.”
