Jonathan Lee Recruitment to offer career advice to aspiring female engineers at Farnborough Air Show
With more than 20 years’ experience in the engineering industry, Harris-Hignett is passionate about supporting women working in engineering and the development of British technologies.
Harris-Hignett will be on hand to offer support and advice to female engineers at this year’s Farnborough Air Show (14th-18th July at Hall 1, B14 MAA stand). While offering guidance to the next generation of engineers, Harris-Hignett will also be able to provide details of current positions as well as to discuss career options available in the aerospace, defence and aviation sectors.
Jonathan Lee Recruitment, a specialist in the recruitment of permanent and contract staff within engineering based sectors, is a long-term supporter of the Women in Engineering Society, which recently celebrated its 95thanniversary with the launch of National Women in Engineering Day (June 23rd) – a day dedicated to raising the awareness and celebrating the achievements of women in engineering. Harris-Hignett, urges more women to consider a career in design, technology and manufacturing by reviewing the wide range of possibilities surrounding them in a variety of sectors.
“We recognise the importance of encouraging more women into the industry,” says Harris-Hignett. “Engineering isn’t always about & lsquo;getting your hands dirty’ as younger women often believe. Jonathan Lee Recruitment has placed many female engineers in a range of engineering positions including design, software, purchasing and manufacturing, often working in growing industries such as automotive and aerospace where British companies are driving exciting innovation and product development,” says Harris-Hignett.
“Engineering is still seen as a male-dominated industry, and research shows that only nine per cent of UK engineering professionals are women. This consistent lack of female engineers is a major contribution to skills shortages in the UK,” explains Harris-Hignett. “However, there are already a large number of women working in high-profile positions and it is important that we continue to encourage more females to take up science and technology during the early stages of education.”
Jonathan Lee Recruitment has been supplying the engineering and manufacturing sectors with outstanding candidates at every stage in their career for more than 35 years. The consultancy supports accredited operations such as regional Aerospace Alliances and donates to a number of charitable organisations.
“At Jonathan Lee Recruitment, we have a broad range of expertise in the Army, RAF, manufacturing, engineering and commercial sectors,” says managing consultant – aerospace, defence and aviation, Matthew Heath. “Our team of professional male and female engineers understand our clients’ requirements and work with them to find the very best candidate for the role.”
