GI Group team takes fundraising efforts to new heights

At the end of July 2014, Simon Taylor, Neil Mancey, Rob Ball and Peter Johnston – driven by Neil Farmer - climbed the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales well within their target 24-hour period and surpassed their initial fundraising target of &pound1000.

One of the climbers, Rob Ball, Gi Group’s General Manager SMS Manufacturing, said: “It was an incredibly challenging event both physically and mentally. We all now understand the true meaning of a & lsquo;Once in a lifetime experience’ because we will never do it again!

“To complete all three peaks in just 22hrs and 40mins was real a bonus but we are probably most proud of the amount of money we have raised for Help For Heroes which currently stands at &pound1,385. We wish to thank everyone that has donated and also for the fantastic good luck messages we received en route.”

The National Three Peaks Challenge is an event in which participants attempt to climb the highest mountains of Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours.

&middot         Ben Nevisis the highest mountain in the British Isles. Standing at 1,344 metres above sea level, it is located at the western end of the Grampian Mountains in the Scottish Highlands, close to the town of Fort William.

&middot         Scafell Pikeis the highest mountain in England at 978 metres. It is located in Lake District National Park, in Cumbria.

&middot         Snowdonis the highest mountain in Wales, at an altitude of 1,085 metres above sea level, and the highest point in the British Islesoutside Scotland. It is located in Snowdonia National Park.

Gi Group UK recently announced an 18-month commitment to support Help for Heroes as its nominated charity.

In addition to placing the Help For Heroes charity at the forefront of fundraising activity across its 72 UK locations, the partnership will see Gi Group provide practical support including training, mentoring and re-employment opportunities for injured service men and women.

This official commitment to Help For Heroes is part of the Gi Group Recruitment’s ongoing company-wide commitment to corporate social responsibility - which aims to improve the prospects and lives of those in the communities in which it operates.
