PageGroup picks winners of Alzheimers Research UKs annual raffle

Jamie Newman conducted the draw at the specialist recruitment firm’s Glasgow office, before staff headed to The Big G – symbol of the 2014 Commonwealth Games – to celebrate this year’s raffle being held in the sporting spectacle's host city.

Alzheimer’s Research UK’s Annual Raffle is a crucial fundraising tool for the UK’s leading dementia research charity. Since its launch in 2004 it has generated almost &pound410,000 – enough to fund major research projects, cutting edge equipment for scientists and thousands of hours of pioneering research. With 76,864 tickets sold this year, Jamie was faced with a mountain of entries from which to pluck the lucky winners. Top prizes this year included &pound1,000 cash, tea for two at the Ritz and shark feeding at Sea Life in Great Yarmouth.

PageGroup selected Alzheimer’s Research UK for a two-year partnership in 2013, pledging to raise &pound200,000 for the funding of two Research Scholarships in the dementia research field on PhD programmes. Additionally, PageGroup is committed to covering 200,000 miles – by walking, running, cycling, rowing or climbing – to boost funds. Since the partnership was launched, PageGroup has raised over &pound100,000.

Jamie Newman, Senior Managing Director, PageGroup Scotland said:

“We were so pleased to host this year’s Annual Raffle draw at our Glasgow office for Alzheimer’s Research UK. Drawing the raffle winners was great fun and we were thrilled to support such a terrific charity and cause. We understand the importance of supporting such vital fundraising events and raising community awareness throughout the UK, particularly when Glasgow hosted the Commonwealth Games.

“Our people are committed to bringing hope to thousands of UK families who are profoundly affected by dementia. They have regularly participated in sporting challenges and fundraising events to fund two PhD Research Scholarships in the dementia research field. We look forward to seeing the positive effects of our fundraising efforts in innovative dementia research.”

Carolyne Coupel, Head of Supporter Engagement at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said:

“As ever, the public was really behind us with this year’s raffle and every single person who bought a ticket has helped our fight against dementia. It was fantastic holding this year’s draw in Glasgow, host of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and we were thrilled Jamie was available to pick this year’s winners.

“There are almost 60,000 people living with dementia in Scotland, with almost 6,000 of those living in Glasgow. Research is the only answer but funding still lags far behind other serious diseases. We rely on our wonderful supporters to fund our pioneering dementia research and support from businesses like PageGroup plays a key part in helping us progress our world-class research.”
