Cherry Professional launches Academy to find new recruitment talent

Cherry's Academy, which has been established by in-house Recruitment and Training Manager Danielle Coleman, is set to transform the way that the company recruits, trains and retains staff.

Danielle Asano, managing director at Cherry Professional, said: "Like every company, we want to ensure we not only attract the best people, but that we also nurture them, and help them make the step up the career ladder within our company.

"This is a major initiative on our part, with circa &pound30,000 being invested in each candidate that goes through the whole process. It isn’t just for the traditional & lsquo;young apprentice’ – these roles are there for anyone with the potential (indeed, one of our trainees, Jess, spent 8 years in property before deciding on a career in recruitment.) to be a talented recruiter or to take what skills they may already have learned in the industry that little bit further.

“We will have put eight new members of staff through our Academy by the end of 2014, and by the end of April 2015, we are aiming to have recruited 10 through it."

According to Danielle Coleman, the best recruits for any business now expect training and personal development when they take a new job.

She said: “We have the inside track at Cherry, and we know that, since the turn of the year, the high quality professionals in the region have now regained the confidence to look for new roles. For the last four five years that has been missing – but they realise now that businesses are looking to grow again, and that they can be key to ensuring that expansion happens.

"However, we are now seeing a wave of 'defensive pay-rises' by companies looking to desperately keep their talent. If they are to move on, then businesses looking to attract new staff need to provide training and make sure they can offer real career progression."

Staff entering Cherry's Academy are put through an initial rigorous training regime over 12 weeks that aims to teach them everything they need to know about how to be a successful recruitment professional. This is followed by on the job training, structured sessions and one to one coaching to ensure a solid grounding over the first 12 months.

Adds Danielle Asano: "Our new staff have been using the Academy to learn everything from new business development, account management and how to build long lasting professional relationships. Our recent trainees have reacted marvelously to our new Academy. They know they've joined Cherry Professional at the right time, and that there are genuine opportunities for them to climb the career ladder. We're looking forward to making a difference to their careers whilst adding value to our business."
