MERJE eyes growth with industry recruits

The Manchester-based consultancy is expected to increase turnover by 100 per cent on the previous year’s performance, as it enters the final quarter of 2014. In only its third full year of operation, MERJE has announced that net fee income will also exceed &pound1.8 million – an increase of 35 per cent on 2013.

The firm, which was recently nominated at the prestigious APSCo Awards for Excellence 2014, has supported its ambitious growth strategy by continuing to bolster its team of recruitment specialists.

Rob Wright, who joins as a senior consultant at the Manchester office, has been brought onboard to help launch the firm’s new offering across the IFA, investment banking and wealth management sectors. The 37-year-old previously worked as business manager for Optima Search & Selection. He has over seven years’ experience working in financial services recruitment, combined with five years as a fraud manager at Citigroup.

Richard Abelson, co-founding director at MERJE, said: “Rob is a very experienced recruiter, who brings a wealth of industry expertise in IFA, investment banking and wealth management. He will oversee the growth and development of this division and we’re confident his appointment will have the right impact on our business over the next few years.”

Ian Ockerby, 37, joins the London office, which has recently relocated to larger premises in the heart of the City to support the company’s growth. He will work alongside the expanding customer contact team as a resourcer. Previously an office manager, Ian brings a wealth of financial services business knowledge and strong customer service skills to the company and will be responsible for mapping the market and sourcing candidates.

Edward Manson, co-founding director based in the London office, commented: “In the last 12 months, we have seen a substantial increase both in the number of permanent placements made, together with the number of senior level contractors that have been placed in the financial services sector.  Ian’s appointment demonstrates our commitment to bringing only the best people onboard and we will continue to be very selective about the people we hire in the coming months.”

During 2014, MERJE added three employees to its Manchester team, with two joining in London. This takes the total number of staff to 17, with the headcount expected to increase to over 20 by the end of the year.

MERJE focuses on recruiting mid to senior-level candidates for permanent and contract roles in finance, compliance, anti-money laundering, fraud, internal audit, risk and customer contact.
