New era of growth for the recruitment industry
According to data from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), total industry turnover increased by 8.2 per cent on the previous year’s total and surpassed the previous record high of £27 billion in 2007/08.
Andy Leadbetter, COO at national recruitment consultancy Uniting Ambition, comments: “This research marks a new era of growth for the recruitment industry. Not only is the sector driving record employment levels, it is also instrumental in accelerating the UK’s economic recovery.
“In alignment with our own experiences, this rise in revenue has been powered by increased demand for talent and high volumes of job creation. More and more UK businesses are looking to employ skilled workers to ramp up their growth efforts, resulting in a climate of opportunity.
“Last year alone recruiters helped more than 630,000 people secure a permanent job, and each day 1.15 million people go out to work on a temporary or contract assignment secured through a recruitment company.
“With such a strong impact on the job market and on individual working lives, the recruitment sector is set to receive the recognition it deserves as a positive economic force.
“The task recruiters across the nation now face is to address the skills shortage. To help businesses grow through talent acquisition, we have to keep finding innovative ways to use the workforce efficiently and ensure that high industry standards are met.”
