Online board level recruitment platform, Nurole, places first two non-executives on a FTSE board
The Merchants Trust is a long-standing UK investment trust chaired by Simon Fraser and managed by Allianz Global Investors. It has a long and distinguished history of focusing on income for its shareholders, with a current yield of 5.3%¹, and has delivered 32 consecutive years of dividend growth.
The two appointees are Sybella Stanley, Director of Corporate Finance at Reed Elsevier Group plc and Mary Ann Sieghart, a political journalist and broadcaster.
Nurole was initially selected by The Merchants Trust to help with the recruitment of one additional non-executive director. Nurole initially emailed 254 of its registrants who had expressed an interest in joining the board of an investment trust AND who best matched the criteria for this particular position. 29 Nurole registrants made formal applications for the position, eight were shortlisted and two have been appointed.
Susie Cummings, Chief Executive and Founder of Nurole, commented: “These are our first FTSE appointments. I am delighted, that after only four months since launch, the platform is already working so effectively. The geographic, gender and functional diversity of the registrants is very encouraging we have a great spread from FTSE 100 chairmen to up-and-coming digital talent.”
Simon Fraser, the Chairman of The Merchants Trust said: “We are delighted with this result. We were impressed by the calibre and range of the long list provided by Nurole, nearly every applicant seemed well-suited. Out of the eight we shortlisted it was difficult to choose which to take forward. In the end we appointed two rather than one”.
Sybella Stanley and Mary Ann Sieghart will take up their posts with effect from 3 November 2014. This will result in the board being 40% female.
