Simplycos Paul Murphy wins Businessperson of the Year

Murphy has been working both in and with the recruitment industry for over 30 years having started his career with Brook Street Bureau PLC in 1983.  He now manages Simplyco the straightforward accountancy and umbrella company for contractors, freelancers and the self-employed.

Murphy was up against some stiff competition with the judges commenting on the high standards of the other nominees in the category including Kurt Canfield from Safety Critical and Sally Fielding from Sally’s Cottages.

Entered into the awards for transforming Simplyco as a brand as well as a business Murphy was commended on his outstanding contribution, exceptional commitment, leadership and vision.

Prior to Murphy arrival at the company Simplyco was trading under 4 separate brands and its customers were predominately based in West Cumbria and allied to the Nuclear Sector. Recognising the need to streamline the structure of the business and brand positioning Murphymade a case to merge the brands to provide a cleaner and improved client-facing image.

The transformation was overseen and managed by Murphy himself and involved simplifying company procedures and creating a new brand that encompassed the essence of “straightforward expertise”. It also incorporated writing new marketing literature, developing a new website, commissioning improved software and simplifying contracts. All of which has revolutionised the business and has seen its turnover triple from &pound1.1m in 2012 to &pound3.7m in 2013.

The awards ceremony took place at Carlisle Racecourse compered by Julie Clayton from BBC Radio Cumbria and guest speaker Kevin Roberts who is the Worldwide CEO for Saatchi & Saatchi.

Jane Fretwell, director of Simplyco, commented, “I would like to congratulate Paul on being recognised as the Business person of the Year 2014. It is a fantastic achievement and he is truly deserving of the award as he has been instrumental in the transformation and success of our business. Without Paul’s input Simplyco wouldn’t be the business it is today and all of the team would like to congratulate him on his achievement and thank him for the impeccable enthusiasm, commitment and hard work that he continues to deliver."
