TeamHealth acquires PhysAssist Scribes

Based in Fort Worth, Texas, PhysAssist provides scribe services for more than 155 emergency departments in 22 states. Founded in 1995, PhysAssist was the nation's first scribe company and is a leader in the development of the scribe services industry.

With the increasing complexity of care delivery in the emergency department, including the expanded use of electronic medical records, scribes provide a means to enhance physician productivity by reducing the administrative burden of paper or electronic documentation while allowing a greater focus on patient interaction. In addition to the benefit of improved physician productivity, scribe programs enhance the accuracy and completeness of the medical record as a result of real-time documentation.

PhysAssist will operate under its current leadership as a separate division of TeamHealth and will continue to serve its existing clients from the Fort Worth office while seeking new opportunities for growth throughout the U.S. The PhysAssist management team will provide leadership and oversight of TeamHealth's development of scribe services, providing support for TeamHealth's new and existing hospital partners throughout the country.

"Our services were created and designed to help improve the workflow of busy emergency departments," said Alex Geesbreght, J.D., president of PhysAssist. "Our turnkey scribe model paired with TeamHealth's reputation for quality emergency department staffing services is a natural fit. We look forward to a partnership that builds upon the strengths of both organizations."

"The addition of PhysAssist to TeamHealth deepens our commitment to becoming a comprehensive healthcare solutions organization," said Mike Snow, president and CEO of TeamHealth. "As our hospital partners continue implementing electronic medical record systems, we have found it necessary to respond with scribe programs to minimize service disruption and maintain quality patient care. PhysAssist is a national leader in providing the expertise, resources and infrastructure for successful scribe programs. We welcome PhysAssist to TeamHealth and look forward to a partnership that improves quality and efficiency for our hospital partners, affiliated providers and patients and families."
