Training Academy seeks to bridge the skills gap

Based in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, the academy will offer a range of accredited training courses that will seek to pump fresh talent into the logistics and transport sector.

The sector has faced a crippling talent and skills shortage in recent years. Just this month the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) found that the sector, which contributes more than &pound90bn annually to the UK economy, faces skills shortfalls and recruitment difficulties, with an estimated 1.2m extra jobs required by 2022.

A range of courses will be offered to internal Transline staff, as well as the site acting as a resource to Transline’s blue-chip, big brand client base. The current course list includes first aid training, compliance, manual handling, LGV/HGV driving and speed awareness.

Paul Beasley, joint CEO at Transline Group, said: “Our training division has generated well-trained and highly-regdearded staff for roles across the logistics sector for more than five years.

“The launch of the Training Academy will formalise our course structure and allow for further development of the division in response to growing demand from businesses to outsource this crucial provision.”

The Training Academy is accredited by Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance, Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training and the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.

Jon Taylor, joint CEO at Transline Group, commented: “We are seeing a great number of people enter the academy with absolutely no experience in the sector and following our training securing not only stable employment, but also building a career for themselves.

“We have also had an exceptional response from clients who utilise the services of our training division, with many commenting on the development of individuals who attend the courses.”

Transline saw a 52 per cent increase in turnover compared to 2012, as its UK sales climbed to &pound107.9m in 2013. The business was also recently named & lsquo;Best Temporary Recruitment Agency’ at The Recruiter Awards for Excellence 2014.
