Barker Ross's healthcare business to be directly managed

Cardea has operated to date as a standalone healthcare recruiter, part of the Barker Ross Group but with its own management team. This move is designed to contribute to the Barker Ross Group's ambition to achieve a turnover of &pound64m by 2016.

Paul Ross, CEO and founder of Barker Ross says: "Healthcare is a demanding business to recruit for so I've put Cardea under the direct control of Barker Ross Recruitment as that business has performed exceptionally well through the recession, expanding whilst maintaining quality standards."

Barker Ross Recruitment, which incorporates construction, civil engineering, technical, plant, piling, rail and property and facilities expanded rapidly over the last few years, despite tough trading conditions. Three years ago the construction division had a turnover of &pound2 million and eight employees. Today there are 48 people working in construction for Barker Ross with a turnover &pound16.5 million.

Barker Ross managing director, Antony Rowe who will take charge of Cardea, says: "Everyone in our business is given a brief to recruit for one sector at a specific level so the really get to know candidates and clients. We find that they are able to give the best service this way and from a business point of view, great service beats lower margins every time."

"I intend to apply this methodology to Cardea. It’s already a successful business, but I believe it will take a bigger market share in healthcare when we are able to develop profitable niches. We have already successfully applied this way of working to our other technical business and it has proved its worth, so I am excited about this new opportunity in healthcare."

Ross commented further : "At Barker Ross we have shown that our tactic of developing niches in industries we know about really works. I'm confident about Antony's ability to take Cardea forward and we recognise there are significant benefits in terms of operational efficiencies for use sharing costs and expanding geographically. It's an exciting time to be at Barker Ross."

The vacancies Barker Ross looking to fill are:

- healthcare consultants for all offices

- engineering & plant consultants for Milton Keynes

- construction consultants for Leeds and Manchester

- branch manager for Leeds
