Simplyco helps boost James Burns Wish to Walk Fund
Instead of sending Christmas cards to clients the Simplyco team decided to donate the cost of the cards and postage to a local cause. The team were given the opportunity to vote for causes they thought were deserving of the £1,250 donation and were so overwhelmed by Burns’ story that he won more than half the votes.
At a very young age Burns was diagnosed with Spastic Diplega which causes tightness and stiffness from the hip down and also suffers with Chronic Lung Disease and can’t hear very well. His family’s goal is to raise £60,000 to fund an operation in America which could help him walk again, unaided.
Burns and his granddad visited the Simplyco head office in Cockermouth to receive the cheque from Simplyco manager Paul Murphy.
Murphy commented, “We were honoured to meet James, and what a character – a real chirpy chappie with bags of enthusiasm and energy. Whilst we recognise that we have provided a much needed boost, James still has a long way to go to reach the £60,000 goal and I would urge anyone reading this to visit the Just Giving website and donate as much as you can. Even one pound makes a difference”.
Burns was clearly overjoyed about the donation and thanked the team by exclaiming, “Thank you, this is awesome!” – He also spent some time playing games on the firm’s computers and eating chocolates, which he happily shared with staff.
Burns’ granddad was really touched by the team’s donations and commented on the kindness and generosity that exists within West Cumbria.
