Transport, real estate and construction sectors lead year on year job growth

These industries are most often accompanied in the monthly job growth rankings by the education, hospitality and manufacturing sectors.

Industry employment trends

Top growth industries (year on year) – change compared to January 2014

1.     Transportation (up 36% - 33,074 vacancies)

2.     Construction (30% - 103,075 vacancies)

3.     Manufacturing (29% - 46,532 vacancies)

4.     Real Estate (29% - 32,328 vacancies)

5.     Hospitality (22% - 57,581 vacancies)

Key stats

•         The industries showing least growth compared to the same month last year are media (no growth), healthcare (1%), human resources (4%), information technology (4%) and financial services and banking (5%) 

•         Although financial services and retail did not see strong growth in January, available vacancies in these sectors equalled or even topped availability in the high growth sectors with 103,347 and 139,563 respectively. Although there is still job opportunity in this sector, growth is stagnant compared to other sectors

•         Job availability in all sectors fell from December 2014, apart from manufacturing, which saw 3% growth
