Back in the fundraising saddle for Scottish recruitment MD
This cycle sportive event, in aid of McMillan Cancer Support, takes place on Sunday 26th April and covers 66 miles / 106 km around Loch Ness on traffic-free roads. The 360° closed-road route around the iconic loch, starting and finishing in the Highland capital of Inverness, offers a fantastic challenge with unrivalled scenery on closed roads.
At approximately 35 miles (55km) into the route as you leave Fort Augustus, there is a 4.8 mile (9km) climb gaining 380m in height and at times with a gradient reaching 12%. So although the scenery sounds idyllic it won’t be a Sunday afternoon outing!
Brunton remarked, “This is a great opportunity to cycle around one of the most iconic, beautiful and famous Loch’s in Scotland – on traffic free roads. It won’t be a & lsquo;walk in the park’ but I am hoping to complete it in a good time, whilst more importantly raise around £1,000 for McMillan Cancer Support, a charity very closes to my heart”
The event has attracted hundreds of cyclists this year and riders will set off in waves every 2 minutes between 06.20 and 06.54. The actual starting point is located by the Bught Park on Bught Road. Ms Brunton states, “More than one in three of us will get cancer. For most of us it will be the toughest fight we ever face. And the feelings of isolation and loneliness that so many people experience make it even harder. But you don’t have to go through it alone. The fantastic people who make up the Macmillan team are with patients and their families every step of the way. So I am proud to have the opportunity to raise more needed funds for this valuable cause”
