Warning over construction jobs scam issued

Fraudulent advertisements using the London office address and logo for subsidiary Quadrant Construction have appeared across various legitimate recruitment websites. The advertisements claim to be recruiting for a variety of construction roles, and “successful” applicants from overseas are told that housing will be provided in London if they make up front rental payments.

The scam was revealed when an overseas applicant contacted L&Q’s human resources team after becoming suspicious. It is not clear whether the scam relates to identity theft or fraud linked to fees and/or property deposit requests.

Tom Nicholls, Group Director of Human Resources at L&Q, said: “L&Q has just embarked on an ambitious new growth plan which will see us recruiting for hundreds of new roles, including within our Quadrant Construction arm, over the next five years.

“L&Q is committed to protecting itself and candidates, so all recruitment is processed through our in-house HR team and all vacancies are advertised directly on our website with a unique job reference number.

“All shortlisted applicants will be invited to a face-to-face interview at a registered L&Q office, which are also listed on our website, and no payments will ever be requested in advance of employment.

“L&Q is a great place to work and we have numerous exciting roles within the organisation. If candidates have any concerns about the legitimacy of an advert they see, I would urge them to contact”

People can also contact or call 0300 123 2040 to report a suspected fraud.
