Ambition appoints head of diversity

This is a reasonably unique role in the London market in which Sally Clare will work with Ambition’s clients to provide more information, advice and guidance around improving their diversity strategy as well as a broadening the current pool of talent.

Sally Clare joined Ambition in 2010 and previously managed the Professional Services Team. In this role she worked closely with Ambition UK Managing Director, Andrea Williams, to create the Women with Ambition network and consulted with a number of London’s female Partners within Accountancy Practice.

Nicky Acuna Ocana, director of Professional Services, said, “Over the last six months, Sally has been instrumental in developing a strong presence within Professional Services, working with female Partners to launch an initiative to drive an increase in the number of women getting to Partner level. She has been successful in growing this network and her passion, drive and determination to make this work led Andrea and I to discuss an opportunity with her that would enable more of our clients to benefit from this initiative.”

Sally’s appointment strengthens Ambition’s global commitment to diversity. This is the second position within the organisation to focus on this initiative, as earlier this year Ambition’s Australian operations appointed Diana Hewitson as “Head of Gender Diversity” to meet the push by businesses for more balanced hiring.

“Diversity is a key topic with all our clients across Financial Services and Professional Services and we believe that by creating a new role that solely concentrates on this, we will be able to develop and change the way in which recruitment companies deal with diversity.” Andrea Williams said.

Although Clare’s role will initially focus on gender diversity in the short term, it will eventually encompass all aspects of diversity.

Clare said of her appointment, “Emma Watson stated last year in her impressive feminism speech “How can we affect change in the world when only half of it is invited or feels welcome to participate in the conversation?

"This is exactly what has been happening in a number of companies across the city.  There are not enough senior women to speak out and this needs to change. We at Ambition are determined to do something about it.”

She added, “This year, every top scorer in the ICAEW accountancy exam results was a woman! This should transpire into an increased number of female business leaders in the future, however without role models within Financial Services and Professional Services for these women to aspire to, we risk losing them from the industry.”
