Thorn Baker appoints operations manager

Neil Whiteside takes on the role at the national agency’s Nottingham office, with a focus on extending the engineering and sales teams, as well as developing new areas of the business.

Whiteside, who has worked in recruitment since 1998 in a variety of roles across the country, said he saw Thorn Baker as the perfect company for him on both a personal and a professional level.

He said, “I saw a long term career opportunity at Thorn Baker, so I took it. I like the way the company is looking to expand and develop, which is very much a part of my personal goal for my career too.

“I really enjoy everything about recruitment, from the sales element to the job satisfaction which comes with helping someone find their perfect career. My aims at Thorn Baker will be to contribute to the ongoing success of the company and to bring new ideas to the table as part of its growth plans.”

Whiteside added that he found the work environment at Thorn Baker different and refreshing in comparison to previous employers.

He said, “I’ve worked for large corporations in the past where things can move quite slowly – so it is invigorating to come to a company where there is the opportunity to bring about change quickly and efficiently.”

John Robinson, director at Thorn Baker, said he was delighted to welcome Neil to the team.

He said, “Neil has a wealth of very impressive experience in the recruitment sector, and we knew he would fit well in to our energetic and passionate team as soon as we met him. He will have a key role to play in our Nottingham office and we look forward to seeing him grow and develop his team over the coming months.”

Thorn Baker - which recently took a three star award from Best Companies, the national award which recognises leading UK organisations - is headquartered in Nottingham and has nine other regional offices in Birmingham, Bristol, Chesterfield, Leeds, Leicester, London, Manchester, Mansfield and Newcastle.

They work across six sectors including construction, industrial, estates, facilities and maintenance, office and professional, technical and engineering and sales and marketing and have also been named on The Sunday Times 100 Best Small Companies to Work For in 2015 list.
