The RI Fantasy League

Sponsored By Futura Rec2Rec

As those of you who have played in previous season will know, our league actually starts in GameWeek 5 so that all you hard working recruiters can enjoy your August holidays and still be part of the biggest and the best recruitment fantasy league in the country.

We normally publish a newsletter after every game week, but in the coming weeks we're going to spend a little time explaining how we think the new Premier Fantasy League rule changes work so that people don't get caught out.

Last  weeks we looked at wildcards. The previous editions are available on-line at

This week we're going to deal with...

The three chips you can play this season are Bench Boost, Triple Captain and All Out Attack. We'll look at the AOA next week but this week we'll be looking at Bench Boost and Triple Captain.

When you play your Bench Boost chip you gain points for every member of your squad including both goalies. Obviously, you need to play it when you have a big double Gameweek (DGW) ahead and that probably means waiting until at least Gameweek 27. You'll also want to ensure that you get most value out of it, which means that your entire squad needs to be players that will actually get a game. The two cheap keepers tactic, which we highlighted last week would definitely come into place here as would the time you play your second wildcard as we highlighted in week 1. Can you imagine playing your second wildcard in time for a big DGW and then playing your Bench Boost? We think we will witness our first 200 points score later this season if the top managers use this chip and their second wildcard properly.

With Triple Captain, you really are in the lap of the Gods. How many times have we captained Aguero for him to score 2 points after coming off the bench when Yaya weighs in with 16? (Yes, a lot of us did that in GameWeek 1). It's bad enough getting it wrong when its double points but triple? The mind boggles. Jay Egersdorff won our league in the last GameWeek of last season by selecting Walcott as his captain. The same Walcott who'd hardly earned a point for the rest of the season.

Obviously a DGW for a big scorer is essential but bear in mind that you can't play two chips or a chip and a wildcard at once and so it has to be a different DGW from the Bench Boost one. Benteke earned no less than 23 points for his DGW last season and so that could mean a massive 69 points for him alone!

Definitely squeaky bum time and one you'd save for later in the season.

One team only please

We didn't think we had to actually say this but there's always one isn't there?

You can only enter one team into our league. If we didn't make this clear before, please take this as a rule change before our season starts.

If you do enter more than one team, we will simply delete the latest team that you have entered. Next season, we'll delete all the teams you have entered so please play fair

Team names please

The reason we ask for your agency name as part of your team name is because it's the only way we can ensure that we are paying the prizes out to the correct managers and that those managers are genuinely in the recruitment industry.

However, those of you who aren't putting in your team names are missing out on some great publicity for your agency and, as recruiters tend to be competitive creatures, isn't it better to beat you rivals in business AND in the fantasy league?
