Pure team races against clients in aid of a good cause

Recruitment consultants Mark Wishart, Scott Woodrow, Gemma Pritchard-Jones, Ellie Steinfeldt, Katherine Bell and Caroline Batchelor all took part in the event for the first time this year. They each ran 1.7 miles in relay format, following in the footsteps of the famous film to race through the streets and colleges of Cambridge. They completed the challenge in just 1 hour and 18 minutes. 

Mark Wishart, who organised the Pure team’s participation, said, “It was a great performance all round and our congratulations go to the overall winning team at Glassworks Health Club, who finished the race in an unbelievably quick time. It was an excellent event to be involved in and there was an exceptionally fantastic atmosphere as the perfect weather encouraged even more supporters to come along and cheer us on. We’re all really proud of the team effort we put in and thankfully, despite a few aches and pains the day after, we all got round unscathed and uninjured!”

There would have been a doctor on hand should any of the team have needed it, as this year’s race, organised by Hewitsons Charitable Trust, was started by Dr Pixie McKenna, television presenter on the Channel 4 series Embarrassing Bodies.

So far the Pure have raised approximately &pound200 in sponsorship money from this event and more is expected to be collected in. All money raised will be used to support the vital service of The EACH True Colours Symptom Management Team. This team aims to ensure all life-threatened children, young people and their families living in the region, have access to vital support and advice when they need it most. The provision of these nurses, which is funded entirely through local fundraising, provides families with choices to manage their child or young person’s healthcare needs and symptoms in a place of their choosing. They work with families and local care professionals to develop individual symptom management plans.

Wishart added, “EACH has been one of Pure’s chosen charities since the company was founded in 2002, so we always feel strongly about taking part in events which raise money for this amazing cause in particular. I’m hoping that we will also be able to enter a team again next year, especially as it’s also a great way to socialise with a lot of our clients who also take part, and to engage in some good humoured banter and competitive spirit.”

Since the event started in 1992, Chariots of Fire has raised over &pound1 million for local and regional charities, with an estimated 6,245 teams having taken part in the race.
