Christmas comes earlier than ever, says contracting specialist
“The Christmas shopping period is normally defined as the eight weeks between 2 November and 27 December, but with stores putting their festive windows and displays in place earlier than ever and offering discounts and rewards for early orders, we’re seeing the start of the Christmas online shopping surge already with record demand for delivery drivers this month,” said Nova Director Marcus Green.
“That growth is set to continue, with current forecasts* predicting £116 billion will be spent online in the UK this year - a 12% increase on figures for 2014. Research shows UK shoppers spent £21.6 billion on gifts and bargains last November and December, with so-called & lsquo;Black Friday’ discounts focusing huge volumes of sales activity on the final week of November.
“We’re working with recruitment agencies across the UK to help meet the demand for temporary drivers, packaging teams and administration staff, both now and into the New Year returns and sale period. Although it’s good news for the contracting industry, it will put shortage of temporary drivers into even sharper focus.”
Nova operates across the logistics, industrial, education, healthcare, catering and hospitality sectors, working with the UK’s leading recruitment agencies and contractors to reduce costs, increase profits and deliver flexible employment solutions.
