Marathon effort sees Nottingham recruitment boss raise 1,000 for cancer charity
Martin Burnett, director of Cherry Professional Limited, the specialist finance, HR and accountancy recruitment business, completed the course in a personal best 1 hour 48 minutes and 57 seconds, and, along with the firm’s clients and candidates, raised £1000 for the Ethan Maull “Up Yours to Cancer” Foundation.
Burnett commented that everyone at Cherry Professional takes giving to charity seriously. “We’ve all been affected by illness, disease and or just plain bad luck at some stage in our life, so I think it’s important to recognise this, leverage our networks and give something back.”
When a family friend was diagnosed with breast cancer, Ethan Maull, at just six years old, helped raise over £4,000 for Cancer Research. Ethan joined a hike with his father, Darren, making the ascent to the top of Snowdon, an amazing fete for a small boy.
Just two and a half years later, brave and brilliant Ethan at just eight years old was diagnosed with a rare form of Osteosarcoma, a children’s bone cancer. He began a regime of chemotherapy in the new year of 2013 and Ethan continued to have treatment which caused him many terrible side effects but despite his own battle he continued to raise funds for charity.
Having spent so much time in hospital, Ethan saw first-hand the devastating effects on the children suffering with cancer and the financial burden on their families. The cost of travel and overnight accommodation is an added burden to the families who are already fighting and struggling and Ethan wanted to help.
& lsquo;Billy’s House’ is located close to the hospital where families can stay while their children are having prolonged treatment and it is a place that they can try to make a home from home while they are there.
From his devotion to help others, was the creation of The Ethan Maull “Up Yours To Cancer” foundation. Ethan hoped to raise money for the children on ward E39 at Nottingham Children’s Hospital and ultimately to fund another Billy’s House.
Burnett adds, “Sadly, Ethan lost his battle to Cancer this year at aged ten and I know everyone will agree this little boy was very brave, influential and driven. Even during his own struggle he wanted to make the lives of others better. Cherry Professional want to ask you to donate as much as you can to carry on Ethan’s hard work, we feel honoured to raise money for The Ethan Maull “Up Yours To Cancer” foundation.
“My efforts in the Robin Hood Half Marathon are just a small part of the overall charity ethos we have at Cherry Professional that runs throughout the year. We look forward to supporting the Ethan Maull “Up Yours to Cancer” Foundation and others throughout the coming months and years, and would urge others to do so.”
